I took the heatsink off mine and removed the 'gold' anodizing with a glass bead blaster, then I used a metal file to flatten the bottom face for best contact with the chip. Then I used thermal paste and superglue to put it back on.

I've done the bead blasting on many heatsinks. It eliminates any possibility of insulating from the anodizing (chemically oxidized with water based dye trapped in it) and somewhat increases the total surface area due to roughening it up a bit. The surface will of course oxidize again, but in a much thinner layer. I use masking tape on the chip surface of the sinks so they stay smooth, of course I remove the tape before re-mounting the heatsinks.
