Posts: 2 (11/23/06 00:50:31) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Hey i have a K7S5A pro motherboard the computer was built 7/14/03 it has worked fine up until now it has got where it would reboot itself every once in a while and the cd burner went out in it so i opened the case and installed a new cd burner and noticed that the heat sink for the processor was just about stopped up with dust so i cleaned it out and put everything back together and now it won't boot up, when i turn it on the cd drives flash, and the fans run and hard drives come on but thats it . I've checked all my connections , memory, reseated everything and it does the same thing does anyone have any other suggestions, oh and i also checked the caps. Thanks in advance

I think the first thing I would do is reset the CMOS. (unplug the power cable, switch the CMOS jumper on the motherboard, let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then replace the CMOS jumper in it's original position, then plug the power cable back in). Then try to re-boot. If that doesn't do it, try removing everything that is not absolutely necessary. Like only video card and one stick of ram. One last quick thought, make sure the CPU fan is still turning, if it's not, you may have fried your CPU. Anyway, try a few of things, and post your results. I'll be back on later today, to see if it helps or not.

Posts: 2 (11/23/06 13:12:08) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hello and happy turkey day to you also Ok i reset the cmos, still didn't work so then i dissconnected everything except the vidio card, 1 stick of ram, and the cpu and fan.The cpu fan does run but it still won't boot up or anything , I know that the video card and ram are good because i tested them in my other computer but i couldn't test the cpu because the one in my other computer looks like it's made into the board they look the same but i don't see how to remove it from the board so i didn' t try it, so i'm still in the same position that i was in to start with any suggestions would be appreciated . Thanks for the reply

Did you remove your heatsink/fan and then reattach it incorrectly? Maybe you need a new layer of thermal compound between the heatsink and the processor, although I doubt it.

After I upgraded the bios and overclock the FSB and increased the Vcore I started getting these long boot up delays. when I turned the on power switch, the computer comes up, fan runing, etc. except the screen stays blank for duration of N time. It may stay blank/black from 1 mins to N # of random time, then the boot screen shows up.
