the bones: K7S5A v1; Thoroughbred 2400XP; 1gig DDR RAM; Fortran Source 300w PS; Radeon 2400 256mb AGP; WD 80gig Primary; WinXP Pro SP3
the xtras: WD160gig HD; Seagate 250gig HD; Lite-On 24x CDRW; Lite-On DVDRW; PCI two channel IDE controller; PCI USB 2.0 card; PCI D-Link wireless adapter; PCI Belkin Firewire card...that's about it.

Yesterday I upgraded my processor from an old Athlon 1200 to a Thoroughbred 2400XP. I unplugged all drives except the floppy and Primary. Flashed the bios with OC 021209b. BIOS detected the 2400 on the first boot. I set it at 138/138 (overclocked it a tad), disabled all the onboard serial, parallel, modem, NIC, MIDI, and game ports. Booted into windows just great. Windows showed the correct processor. Ran CPU-Z and it also showed the correct processor, showed that SSE was enabled (which was my main goal in all of this so I can run some audio software), showed a core speed right around 2.0ghz. Motherboard Monitor was showing a CPU temp average around 34 (idle) and 41 (load). Everything looking great so far. I shut her down and hooked up all the other drives...fired her back up and NO POST. No beeps. Nothing. Fans running, lights blinking...but monitor stuck in stand-by. OK...disconnected both optical drives and it POSTs. Got back into Windows and all seemed OK. Worry about the optical drives later.

Fired up FruityLoops Studio and played with it for about an hour when the video just went dead...monitor went into stand-by...again, no POST when rebooted. Disconnected all drives except Primary, cleared the CMOS, now it POSTs but shows up in BIOS as Athlon1800XP, 100/100. If I change the speed to 133/133, no POST. Clear CMOS again. I'm stumped here. SUGGESTIONS PLEASE??? Should I flash the BIOS with a different version? OEM version? Someone out there has got to be able to steer me in the right direction...I've had this board since it first came out and this machine has always been a pretty reliable workhorse...I just wanted to add SSE so I updated the processor...now everything is acting freaky. HELP! Thank in advance...

PS--I really don't want to dump any more cash into this elderly system...It was running just fine until I decided to beef up the brains a bit...DOH!
