I have a few questions concerning basic troubleshooting techniques....
1) If a higher speed processer was replaced in a motherboard without clearing CMOS--what may be the result?
2) If the board battery is dead, what would happen to the system?
3) How long will the mb batter last? How long will the battery on the board last if it was "on the shelf"?
I'm troubleshooting two similar boards (checked for busted caps) with two different processessors, have three PSU's (lines tested), and have a lot of different memory to try (smaller capacity, but should be fine for testing purposes).
Both boards power up (outside of case), lights on, fans spin, but neither posts. I've swapped out PSUs (tested and within range), swapped CPUs, and RAM modules. I don't get any beeps.....or anything on the video. I even swapped out monitors just in case something went wrong with the sound.
I'm assuming at this stage, its user error and find it highly unlikely both boards act in the same manner with different devices.
PWA-PWA-Camaro boards (compaq pulls)
K6-2 550MHz/K6-2 350MHz
480 Watt Antec (new)
200 Watt (compaq PSU-used)
350 Watt (Generic PSU-New)
RAM-from 32MB to 256MB 100 and 133
