I purchased an Athlon XP-M 2800+ (eBay) to upgrade my K7S5A v3.1. My previous config was an Athlon XP 1600+ Palamino (10.5x CPU multipler), overclocked to 150MHz on the FSB, using SetFSB and the standard ECS BIOS. Two 256MB PC2700 DDR DRAMS running 150Mhz x 2. I have the chipset mod with a fan on the chipset as well. This configuration ran very well for years, however the Palamino was running a little on the hot side, around 46C or so idleing, and I was wanting more performance from the system. So I upgraded to the XP-M 2800+. My problem is that no matter what I do using the 2800+, I cannot set the FSB to anything more than 110Mhz or the system freezes. This is independent of the CPU multiplier. I have changed the CPU mult down to 6x, but as soon as the FSB goes over 110Mhz, it freezes. I have used SpeedFan, SetFSB and CrystalCPUID to set the FSB, doesnt seem to matter what tool I am using, results are the same. So far in addition to the CPU, I have upgraded the PS to a 500W unit (3.3V @32A, 5V @45A, 12V @18A), 512MB of PC3200 memory (400Mhz capable), wire trick on CPU to get 1.8V. Still no luck. My next step is to give the HoneyX BIOS a try, but I doubt that will do anything for me. The system overclocked so well with the Palamino, I figured the XP-M upgrade would be a snap. It sucks running the FSB underclocked like this. Any other ideas?
