I had replaced the power supply as I thought it was the main culprit in the system being loud as hell. Looks like this wasnt the case and I want to replace the fan now. Can anyone recommend a fan that could be used with this board that - with an emphasis on one that would be Quiet. I am not overclocking the system - just want to bring down the noise levels.

Unfortunately, it's probably difficult to find it these days. So you'll have to search for a socket A heatsink/fan that is still available. I would suggest to go for a fan that has a rating less than 35 DBa. Also, on my machine, I was able to drastically reduce the noise that was generated near the 80mm case fan. There was a grate (metal plate with openings... part of the case itself) that was preventing air flow and making a hell of a noise. I removed that a place a simple 80mm fan grill. Amazing result for 2$... Good luck.

My only fear is that the problem is not down to the heatsink/fan. I had used a zalman fanmate previously and it didnt seem to make any difference running it at a lower fan speed. Maybe its just down to a rubbish case? I will get a bit more use out of this machine, but when i move on to another, I'd like to 'retire' it as a cctv server. That would mean running it 24/7, sticking it in the corner of the room and (for the most part) forgetting about it. I won't be able to do this unless I can silence the damn thing!
