The problems include: - Board completely unable to boot/post. - Board sometimes unable to boot/post. - Board posts, but does not detect drives attached to the secondary IDE channel. It seems that there are combatibility issues with this NIC and some motherboard models. According to the guys at HardOCP and this page, the FA311 does not work on the Abit KG7-RAID mainboard either. A good advice would be to avoid the FA31x when building K7S5A-based systems until Netgear (or ECS) does something about it (if ever). If you are using a PCI card NIC, Please post the brand and chipset of your NIC you are successfully using, so we have a list of working alternatives.

I even went as far as getting a RMA number for the board until a pal with the same board told me of the compatability issues. He told me he was running a FA311 in his K7S5A which I subsequently bought and now have in my machine (although I have neither had time to download the drivers for or test). I'll do that in the next few days. One thing it doesn't do is hide my cd-rom drives like the FA310 did! Will

I was one of the unfortunate ppl who had a Netgear FA311 NIC fitted to my old computer. I say unfortunate because it worked fine with my other system but caused many problems with the K7S5A MOBO. These probs ranged from boot-up failures to not recognising the D and E drives when it did finally oblige. Anyway, I removed the card and replaced it with one of US Robotics' little numbers today. I am happy to report that it works like a dream and that everything seems ok.. so far. My system boots up first time, every time, and recognises the extra drives immediately. For your information, the card in question is: US Robotics Model 7900 10/100 Fast Ethernet Card I hope that this info helps someone else. SG Courage is contagious. Posts: 30 (01/20/03 01:31:30) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	as a matter fact i have the fa/311 installed right now.... so i cant see the chipset but it works fine on this board.. i also have a lynksys network everywhere with the nc100 chipset.. and it works fine also.. to install its kinda tricky.. add remove hardware.. clikk on pci ethernet adapter.. reinstall driver.. then have the driver on floppy disk.. point it to the floppy.. let it search for the driver by its self on the floppy.. it will ask for your windows cd.. put it in.. let it finish.. then reboot.. do not cancel and restart later.. u must restart when it prompts.. failure to do so will result in you having to re-format your system.. believe me ive screwed up this one on more than several occasions.. on these and couple other brand name lan cards.. plug in your rj45 into the cable modem .. click on start type in the run box.. winipcfg(forwin 95,98,or win me) in winxp or win 2000 type ipconfig..there will be 2 choices.. ppp and ethernet device.. choose the ethernet device.. this will bring up your adapter adress.. press release all then renew all.. now you have a internet adress.. wooohooo!!!! bryan

The problem could have been fixed in the bios, but it could also work on your computer because you use a third-party ATA controller (using another memory address).

Then I managed to remove the USB perpipherals (ADSL+scanner), and it booted just fine. I could plug back the USB stuff when Windows full booted. However, the computer was then unable to re-boot / shutdown, and the IDE2 (2 CD-ROM drives) was unavailable. So, my question is : WHERE CAN I GET THE HONEY-X BIOS ????? Thx

I've installed the "oc021029a" bios from honey_x (thx a lot!)...but the problem still happens with the netgear FA311 card . Is it this bio that you installed, daveb5254 ? Nico.
